This is the third time this has happened to me. A few years ago my drivers door window was busted out randomly in the middle of the night. We think it was some kids fighting in the street and my window got caught in the crossfire.
Anyway, I had the window professionally replaced and I followed their care directions. (leave it fully/tightly closed for ~2-3days then go easy the first few times you roll it down) It ws cold so I probibly didnt open the window for over a week. Something like 6 months later and it came unglued. I used some epoxy that said it bonded metal and glass so I figured it would bond the two to eachother. I just spread it into the groove the glass sits in and carefully made sure it all aligned when I cranked it up to the glass. Then I cranked it tight so the two fit together.
This worked again for several months. Then it came apart again. This time I used the same epoxy but pulled the metal bracket out and cleaned out all the old epoxy before repeating the same repair method as before. That worked for ~2yrs.
Tonight it pulled loose again on me.
Since the last time I fixed it I've noticed that they have special glue for glass at autozone. I've not checked it to see if its for moving windows or not though. I'm a little worred that the sub 50deg. (F) average temps will effect them.
Do you guys have any recommendations on the best epoxy/glue to use and/or methods to get it to make a more perminent repair?
