I have done this swap and run a 2.8 carb in "Snort" it works well but is not a spell binding performer, If I wer to do it again, I would use the 3.4 crate motor from chevy. That said, I would highly, VERY highly recomend you use a 5 speed with at least a .78 overdrive. At least if you ever want to run it on the highway. Good it if you want a racer but not so nice for a driver. The 2.8 will be a pig without some tall gearing and the dif selection is BAD on the vettes 3.36 is as good as it gets. I would take the T5 out of a firebird or Camaro V-8 that will give you the taller first and second gear and the .68 OD. I based my trany on the V-6 trany and first is a bit too short and so is the OD. If you want the shifter to come through the original vette hole, put the tail stock off a mustang on to it. (bit of fabbing for the speedo and lathe off the output shaft an inch or 2 that is all) Yes it fits, all T-5s are based on the same design. if you do that even the stock 5 peed drive shaft fits.
Have fun!
