I have a 87 2 door Chevette 4speed & the 1.6 threw a rod right out the side of the the block. I started serching the internet to find out about swapping it out with a 3.1 or a 3.4. Found out some info like making motor mounts, cooling system and swapping the bell housing for the transmission. It talked about the trany being a T4 (for the 4 speed) and a T5 (for the 5 speed). So I saught out for a suitible engine for my project and came accross a MPFI 2.8 from a 87 cammaro that has 30,000 miles on a the rebuild. It didn't come with the harness or the computer and scavanged on out of a 88 Firebird. Got a bell housing off a S-10 pick up. I pulled the old engine & tranny out of the chevette and tryed to get the bell of the four speed. This is where I ran into problems. The bell dosn't seem to come of the same way the one of the S-10. Then I did more research and found out that the 4speed is not a "T4" but some kind of knock off they used. They called it a "70 mm Brazil" So I says to my self "WHAT THE F#@%!" I seem to be having problems with getting the bell of and dont know if the bell I have will even fit. The holes look like they are in the same spot. Maybe some one could shed some light on the situaition. I am on a limmited budget and really like the four speed. it has a short throw nice tall gearing and slipps into grear with no clutch veary nicely. Perfect for the ralley car that I am building.
thank you.
