When I got this car, two of the glow plugs were dead, and the relays that power them don't function. Consequently, this car was very difficult to get started. Using extreme caution, I was able to start the car with starting fluid, something that is really not recommended with the Diesel. The glow plugs are AC P33G's, about $18 each X 4! Ouch.
As of now, I have installed a momentary switch which put power to the plugs, bypassing my malfunctioning glow plug relay and timer system. You MUST be very careful with this, and not power the plugs for more than 10 seconds max. Also, you must install some serious wire as these things draw a lot of amperage, at least 8 amps each ! I ran 10 gauge wire out to the battery, and unplugged the original wire going to the original relay, and simply plugged into that. It has a fusible link connection, which may come in handy some day. My particular car is still very difficult to start when cold. I suspect I may have other problems. If the temperature drops much below 55°, I'm not getting this car started without starting fluid, which is something I would prefer to avoid. I have other items to check at this time, and may add to this page should I find other problems.
