Chevette rear coil spring insulators

I can't stand noise.  When I got my Chevette, it had noise, rattles, squeaks, bangs, and crunches coming from everywhere, or so it seemed. I eventually tracked down and killed everything that was rattling, inside and out, and frankly am amazed at how much quieter the car has become. But the most maddening, the loudest, the most annoying noise of all was coming from the rear spring area. At one time I had installed new rear springs, but didn't have new rubber insulators to install also. So I crammed the pieces of rubber that I had in the spring pockets, and put off getting some replacement for some time. Too long actually. After replacing the spring insulators, I felt it was important enough to mention with it's own web page, it's that important. Especially if you hate noise like I do.

That little piece of rubber depicted above is so important that it is unbelievable!  After installing some spring insulators that are in extremely good condition, the difference is astonishing. Now, instead of a constant cacophony of squeaking, rattling, rubbing, and crunching noises coming from the rear end area, I hear a muted "thump" when a bump is traversed. I can't stress enough the importance of spring insulators that are in good condition.

If your are stumped with a noise that you can't find coming from the rear end area of your Chevette, or any other coil spring rear suspension car, have a look at the spring rubbers !
