Super Rare Optional Chevette Dash !

Below is the super ultra extra rare Chevette optional dash that was recently shown by Craig on eBay. I emailed Craig for some extra shots of this very rare, and hardly ever seen in captivity option shown below. Thanks Craig !

Special note from Alex Quirk:

I am glad you referred to the special lap and shoulder belt system as that is the key! I've seen 2 of these in 20 years and they were a rare optional PASSIVE RESTRAINT system that copied those produced by VW for their Rabbit and early Ford Escorts (with the electric mousetrack). The weird structure under the dash was an anti-submarine knee-bar that prevented the wearer from slipping under the door-mounted shoulder belt and ending up under the dash... At the time they were produced it was expected that the NHTSA led by the Democratic administration was going to push through federal laws that would REQUIRE Passive Restraints on all vehicles...soon after that came lawsuits that eliminated them on the few vehicles that they were already on because of high riding shoulder belts (across the faces of short drivers) that broke their necks in frontal crashes... and...about the same time came Ronald Reagan bringing freedom of choice back into the vogue!(AND soon after the repeal of the assinine Democratic 55mph National speed limit!! Which was the reason 55mph was printed in a hard to read red color on many of the Chevette speedometers!) Alex
