4.3 V6 Chevette pictorial

Ed Werick took some pictures of the underside of his 4.3 V-6 Chevette a while back, and they provide some insight on how he performed his modifications.

Shows the Malibu spindle in place and the Pinto coil spring.            This shows how I grafted the Malibu ball joint socket onto the

Same thing from another angle. I also put a notch in the top of the frame rail about 2" in front of the firewall. The right ex manifold hangs over the frame rail and is fairly close to it. With the notch and trimming the gusset I was able to use a straight piece of pipe.

Shows how I raised the control arm mount and made it adjustable.     Shows how I notched the crossmember to clear the 4.3 oil pan.

This is how the heater box looks after I formed it with a hot piece of curved sheet metal.

A side view of the engine compartment. I used the stock long water pump so I could keep the alternator tucked in. The only thing missing is the coolant recovery bottle. I'll probably have to put one in on the left side fender well when summer gets here.

Not easy to see- it's kinda cramped. That's the 229 ex manifold with the flange turned 90 degrees so the bolts
are parallel with the frame rail.

This seemed like the easiest and strongest way to mount the engine. The left mount is basically the same (A little longer) Those are the stock 87 Monte Carlo mounts.

This shows how I moved the trans mount back to clear the AOD pan. It also shows the front mount for the torque arm.

A different angle. Mount is made from 1-1/2" x 1" channel (heavy duty shelving framework that I salvaged) That's the Chevette speedo cable too.
